DeskLeap for Mac is a free menu bar app. The iPad app connects to it.

Set up once, then just tap

Your iPad connects straight to your Mac. There's no account to create.

  1. 1. Install on your Mac

    Download DeskLeap for Mac and open it. It lives in the menu bar. Give it Screen Recording and Accessibility access so it can show the screen and apply your input.

  2. 2. Pair your iPad

    Choose Pair New iPad… on the Mac and tap the Mac on your iPad. Both screens show the same 6-digit code: confirm on both.

  3. 3. Tap to connect

    Your Mac is saved in My Macs on the iPad, with a snapshot of its screen from last time. Tap it to connect.

Work on your Mac, the iPad way

  • Your Mac's screen

    The Mac's screen streams to the iPad as HEVC or H.264 video. Quality adapts when the network gets busy. Pinch to zoom in on the detail.

  • Touch, two ways

    In Trackpad mode your finger moves the pointer. In Direct mode you tap exactly where you want to click. Three-finger swipes open Mission Control and switch Spaces.

  • Apple Pencil

    Pencil points exactly where you touch: press to click, drag to drag. On iPads that support hover, hovering moves the pointer.

  • Keyboard, mouse and trackpad

    Keys and ⌘ shortcuts go to the Mac. For the few shortcuts the iPad keeps, like ⌘Tab, hold right ⌥ instead. A connected mouse or trackpad drives the Mac's pointer directly.

  • Fit Mac to iPad

    DeskLeap can give the Mac a desktop shaped like your iPad, so the picture fills the screen with no black bars, in landscape or portrait.

  • Shared clipboard

    Copy text or an image on the Mac and paste it on the iPad. The paste button sends the iPad's clipboard to the Mac.

  • Private by design

    No accounts, no analytics and no DeskLeap servers. Your iPad connects straight to your Mac over TLS 1.3, trusted only after you pair. Privacy policy

  • At home, or away with Tailscale

    On the same network, your iPad finds the Mac by itself. Away from home, connect over Tailscale by the Mac's name or address.

What you need

A Mac
macOS 14 or later, running DeskLeap for Mac.
An iPad
iPadOS 17 or later, running DeskLeap for iPad.
A connection between them
The same network, or both signed in to the same Tailscale network.
